FAQ’s

HOW DO WE GET TO YOUR STORE?

For directions to our store, please CLICK HERE for our store location page.

ALTITUDE, WILL IT EFFECT ME AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Keystone is in the heart of the scenic Rocky Mountain Range at 9,400 feet with nearby roads approaching 12,000 feet. At this elevation, there is only 66% of the oxygen found at sea level. Staying active is never hard to do in “Colorado’s Playground”, but acclimating can be.  Majority of the visitors will get use to the elevation within a couple of days. For others, it may take several weeks. Since most travelers to the high country are here for only a few days, acclimation may or may not happen. Altitude Sickness symptoms include, headaches, nausea, vomiting, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, fatigue, rapid pulse, shortness of breath and diarrhea. By following a few tips, one can lessen the effects of high altitude.

  1. Stay hydrated. Not only are we high in elevation, but our environment is fairly dry. Dehydration can happen a lot faster than most people think. We recommend replacing electrolytes thru sports drinks, pedialyte, or the best stuff is Emergen-C.
  2. Take it easy your first day.
  3. Limit/avoid alcohol intake. Most people don’t realize that 1 alcoholic beverage at 9,000 feet is equivalent to 2 at sea level.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE BEST DEAL ON LIFT TICKETS?

Vail resorts (Keystone, Breckenridge, A-Basin, Vail and Beaver Creek) will offer the deepest discounts on lift ticket but they need to be purchased well ahead of time. Visit snow.com for details.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PICK UP THE SKI/BOARD EQUIPMENT?
  1. Please bring your reservation confirmation.
  2. The socks you plan on wearing when you are on the slopes. (This will help us get you into a correct fitting boot)
  3. A credit card for a security imprint for the rented equipment.
  4. A valid I.D. that matches the credit card. (A gift card from Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express will not work for a security imprint).
  5. Your enthusiasm for winter and summer outdoor activities.

CAN I RENT JUST BOOTS TO GO WITH MY OWN SKIS?

Yes. However, we are required to do a binding test on your skis to make sure the bindings are working properly. With a boot rental, the binding test will be 50% off the normal cost of $20.  Bindings that are more than 6 years of age are usually no longer indemnified.  Thus, we will not be able to rent you just boots.  Remember, if your skis seem a little older we have the most current and up to date technology available at the best discounted prices in Keystone to rent with your boots!

WHAT IF OUR GROUP HAS THE SAME PICKUP DAY, BUT DIFFERENT RETURN DAYS? DO WE MAKE SEPARATE RESERVATIONS?

Please make one reservation. The number of days you are renting the equipment for can be changed when you pick-up.

WHAT IF I RETURN MY EQUIPMENT EARLY?

Equipment must be returned by 9pm regardless of due date.  You will be refunded for any unused days.

WHAT IF MY EQUIPMENT IS LOST OR STOLEN?

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR RENTAL EQUIPMENT! If it is lost or stolen you will be charged a replacement cost at a depreciated value of the lost or stolen equipment .
Contact Ski Patrol or Guest Services at the resort you are at and ask for assistance in finding your lost equipment.  Taking another ski shops equipment that may be left in the ski rack is not only illegal, it will not cover your replacement costs. Please be assured that most of these cases resolve themselves.

CAN WE PICK UP THE EQUIPMENT THE NIGHT BEFORE WE ARE SKIING/SNOWBOARDING?

Yes, you may pick up your equipment any time after 4pm for the next day. You will not be charged for that evenings pick-up. Anytime before 4pm you will be charged for that day.

DO YOU SELL SKIS AND SNOWBOARDS?

At the end of the season we will sell some Demo skis and snowboards. Generally around mid-April we will have some great deals on our high-end used equipment. For questions and prices in April, please give us a call (970-468-0396 or 1-800-530-3836) or check out our online store when we get it up and running!

IS IT GOING TO SNOW?

We all hope so, but we are not weather forecasters. For the best local weather go to summitdaily.com snow.com or www.noaa.gov (our zip code is 80435) for up to date local weather reports.

CAN WE TAKE A DAY OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RENTAL?

MVS policy is that as long as the rental equipment is out you will be charged for it. If you would like to take a day off, you may return the equipment, and receive a refund (if you have extra days left on your rental). You will then have to come back, fill-out the paperwork again and re-rent equipment for the rest of the days you would like the equipment. Or, especially during our peak season, we recommend simply paying for the extra days if you are using the equipment or not. Remember, we do have the lowest rental rates in Keystone!

DO YOU HAVE SHAPED SKIS?

Every ski that MVS rents is shaped. A shaped ski is one that is wider at the tip and tail than under the boot, similar to an hourglass shape. This design makes skiing much easier to learn with less wear and tear on the body.

ARE YOUR RENTAL SKIS/SNOWBOARDS TUNED?

Absolutely! Every ski and board is tuned each time it is returned at MVS. We use the Montana Crystal Glide system, some of the best tuning equipment in the world, and have highly trained technicians to make sure your skis and snowboards are in the best shape possible.

IS THERE LOCAL TRANSPORTATION THAT GOES TO AND FROM YOUR STORE?

Yes! Keystone Resort has a free shuttle running through out the valley and the countywide Summit Stage bus line is free as well.  Both services stop in front of the Mountain View Plaza on Hwy 6.

DO YOU RENT TELEMARK, CROSS-COUNTRY OR SNOWSHOE GEAR?

Yes, we do rent snowshoes. We do not have telemark or cross country skis. Snowshoes are first come first serve, not need to make a reservation. Wilderness Sports, located in Dillon, rents telemark skis and boots. The Keystone Nordic Center rents both cross-country and snowshoe gear.

WHAT TYPE OF BIKE SHOULD WE RENT?

The style of bike you ride is entirely up to you. For explanations on the different styles please CLICK HERE see our Bike Rental Rates page.

WHAT SHOULD WE BRING ON “RIDE THE PASS?”

The weather changes very quickly in the Colorado high country and you should be prepared for all types of weather conditions. Please check the weather (noaa.gov and our zip cove is 80435) before you arrive for the most up to date conditions.
We recommend bringing: A light rain jacket and some layers are always a good idea. A backpack to carry a jacket along with water, sunglasses, a camera, a hat, wallet, phone, lunch, and sunscreen.
Locks are provided upon request for the bikes so if you think you are going to stop along the way, we would be happy to give you a lock.
